I’d like to show my respects to a friend and colleague Michael Prophet the legend. To me prophet was gifted, talanted & blessed with that amazing voice, his trade mark intro when you heard it, was unmistakable, original and put me on a instant vibes.

Prophet use to greet me like “Vybz wah gwaan” he’d always enquirer about my wellbeing first then the music second. Prophet was a lively man, jokes use to run . . . we use to tease him about his OCD condition as Prophet loved to clean his Benz over and over no matter the weather. He was a clean and proud man but still showed me kindness and respect, and when ever he performed he was immaculately dressed representing for your event.

December 24th 2016 @ Bojangles Michael performed at my event and headlined. Its funny I didn’t think for a minute one year after my event he’d be dead. Prophet died in London on December 16, 2017, at the age of 60 years old, he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer but eventually died from cardiac arrest.

Michael Prophet @ Starrvybz’s Lupus Fundraiser Xmas Eve 2016

I was so shocked at his death as I’d only just heard about his medical condition, it all happened waaayyy to quickly the next thing I knew his funeral service was taking place at the New Testament Church of God. I was deeply shocked and saddened by his death and felt sad for my cousin I Kool as the pair was practically joint at the hip.

Prophet said many times he was from Kingston, Jamaica from Maxfield avenue and he was proud to be one of the artistes from Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes’ Volcano label during the early 1980s and it was from this label he scored his biggest hit Gunman, one of my favourites. (I also love “Your Love” Ricky Tuffy & Prophet) big tune too.

Prophet was still performing up & down the country so I had no clue he was so so sick. He was still recording tunes and in & out of studios right up to the last days. He was laid to rest on Thursday, February 1, 2018 survived by Children & family. R.I.E.P Michael Haynes aka Prophet because thats what I’ve called him since the first time I meet him on my doorstep in Kensal Green NorthWest London, and he said to me “I’m an International superstar” I played ignorance but I already knew that Prophet!!! Rest King … Peace.

Bio

b. Vincent Rhone, Trinityville, St. Thomas, Jamaica, West Indies. Rhone nurtured his vocals as a youth singing at the family church in Yallahs, St. Thomas. In the 70s he left Jamaica to join his parents who had relocated to the UK. His love of cricket and the subsequent skills learnt resulted in him being recruited to play professionally for Northamptonshire where he excelled until an injury terminated his career.

Undeterred by this setback he returned to his first love and moved to London to pursue a career in music. He joined Grove Music where he worked with artists such as Aswad, Michael Prophet, Yabby You, Wayne Wade, Tommy McCook and King Sounds. His initial involvement was in a supporting role as he undertook duties as a ‘roadie’ and ital cook. In 1998, he formed the All-Welcome Crew, with whom he recorded his debut ‘Honeysuckle Lady’, followed by ‘Need Your Loving’. While the first two releases were moderately successful Nap enjoyed greater fortune with the release of ‘Everyday Everyday’.

He also accomplished further kudos with the follow-up, ‘Thanks And Praises’. On the strength of the hits he was commissioned to compose ‘Who Goes There’, that was featured in the soundtrack of Monk Dawson. While building his profile in the reggae chart Nap became involved in stage management and was recruited to administer concerts for artists such as Third World, Jimmy Cliff, Mighty Sparrow and Byron Lee. In 2000, Nap embarked on a hectic touring schedule that included a notable performance in the Homegrown section of the Peace And Love Reggae Festival. He finally released his aptly titled debut, Good Things Come… , through an independent label co-owned by Clifton ‘Bigga’ Morrison. The album featured Nap’s earlier hits alongside, ‘I’m A Musician’, ‘Strugglin’’ and ‘Places’, which clearly demonstrated the singer’s status as one of the UK’s hidden treasures.

Vincent Nap has worked with Starrvybz and had the song “Hustling & Bustling” produced for the SVE Music label.

It was a great honour to work with Vincent as he’s a man who loves to pass on knowledge. Knowledge is wealth and it was a great time creating the song for the project.

Biography

Tony ‘Terror’ Douglas, born in Spanish Town Jamaica, rose in western Kingston came to England at the age of 11 years old. Music has always been a part of Tonys life from the early days of Jamaica, the influences of Rock Steady, Roots Rock, Ska, and Jamaican folk music, have all help to create the soft smooth sweet sounds of Tony Terror Douglas. In the late 1960s, producers such as King Tubby’s and Lee ‘scratch’ Perry began changing the game, and the style of live performances. These changes in the dances, kicked of the beginning of the live performance era, with the bare beats, and bass playing, and the lead instruments dropping in and out of the mix, when heard in the dances, this was the que for dj’s & singers likeKing Stitt and daddy U Roy to step up and entertain. Much of todays modern music has originated from the very music tony listened to in his early days.

Upon settling down in England, Tony’s mother Miss Olive set about building her own sound system, this sound system was to be known by the name ‘Paddington Terror’ sound. Now in his early teens the study of music and the seeds of his showmanship continued to grow not only with-in Tony but also in his younger brother Keith. Paddington Terror Sound was proving to be the learning ground needed in their new community to continue the training of Miss Olives boys, as by the age of 17 years old Tony Douglas was fully equipped to take on the controls of Paddington Terror Sound and took over as the owner.

It was while running their sound system that Tony notice his brothers talent for singing and encourage Keith to start performing, by 1982,Keith Douglas had a massive hit, Lovers Rock song “Cool Down Amina” released by Fashion Records ensuring the Douglas’s place in musical history. Back in 1979 Tony had also started his Professional endeavors, and was successful enough in his own rights. In this same year UK group and reggae icons Aswad, was sponsored by the British Crown to perform in Kenya, Tony Douglas was a part of this event and travelled to Kenya to perform with the legendary reggae group, sealing what he always knew, he was destine to be a performing recording artist.

As a recording artist, Tony has released several albums, two fantastic albums recorded with his group the ’Blackstones’ he had join the ‘Blackstones’ in 1982, the band topped the reggae album chart with ’Take Another Look At

Love’, which took its title from the trio’s chart-topping single. During the mid-80s the group enjoyed a high profile in the charts with the hits ‘Aint She Looking Fine’, ‘Created By One’, ‘Jealousy’, ‘Revolution Time’, ‘Fighting To The Top’

Tony has also released ’Love & Consciousness’ a solo album of inspiration & upliftment. He has also work with many other recording artists either, performed with, writing, structure building and backing vocals. He has worked with Sugar Minot, Barrington Levy, Michael Prophet, Frankie Paul, Paul Dawkins, Paragonsand more. He was also a part of the Heptones & The Abyssinians (Satta Massagana was first recorded for producer Clement “Coxsone” Dodd in March 1969)

‘Kwestions & Answers’ was another exciting release from Tony as a member of the outstanding vocal group Kwest, with group members Damel Carayol and Khareem Jamal. Kwest, was known for their brilliant harmonies and inspiring compositions of some of the best reworked soul classics. Tony also played ’Paul Bogle’ “Black Hero in The Hall of Fame” (Decorate for rights).

2013 saw the release of ‘Living in Babylon’ on the Starrvybz reworked riddim ‘Blackrose Congratulation rhythm’ originally made famous by Dennis Brown with “Promise Land” & “Revolution” Tony did a great social piece, with his trade mark smooth & silky tones, with matching harmonies. Also in the same year Tony performed at a Starrvybz event alongside Winston Francis, Leslie McNeil (Tradition) Paul

Dawkins (Tradition) Kitty Corbin, Harmonie Deja, I Kool, Sparky & Layla Rose, Slim the comedian, and many more. Currently for 2014, Tony has a single to be released on the Starrvybz Entertainment Label, a superb collaboration with the extremely talented singing supreme, ’Harmonie Deja’, a hot new female artist, rising from the UK.

Well all in all Tony Douglas has quite an impressive résumé stemming from the root, right back up to the stem, leaving no doubt that, Tony Terror Douglas, is indeed a great pioneer, and ambassador of reggae music.
